lactic acid
Lactic acid – gently exfoliating & moisture-binding for sensitive skin
Lactic acid has a skin-smoothing, moisturizing and regenerating effect – ideal for sensitive, flaky or barrier-damaged skin.
Introduction / Brief description
Lactic acid (INCI: Lactic Acid ) is a biologically well-tolerated AHA acid that has both moisturizing and exfoliating properties. Although "acid" sounds harsh, lactic acid is a natural component of the skin that provides greater balance, especially for sensitive or flaky skin.
Origin & Production
Our vegan lactic acid is obtained from plant starch or sugar through biotechnological fermentation . It is completely free of animal ingredients. Lactic acid occurs naturally in whey or beer, for example; in cosmetics, it is considered a gentle yet effective AHA acid.
Effect on skin & hair
pH value & skin flora
Lactic acid regulates the skin's pH to a slightly acidic level (~5.0–5.5). This supports the skin's natural acid mantle and strengthens its defenses against harmful microorganisms.
Gentle exfoliation & cell regeneration
As the mildest AHA acid, lactic acid gently exfoliates dead skin cells. At the same time, it stimulates the formation of new ceramides and collagen fibers —for a visibly smoother, more even skin texture.
Moisture binding & barrier protection
As a component of the natural moisturizing system (NMF), lactic acid supports the skin's ability to retain water. This makes it particularly valuable for dry, dehydrated, or barrier-damaged skin.
