Facial cleansing is one of the most important steps in daily facial care. In order to keep your skin healthy and radiantly beautiful, it is important to free it from make-up residues, dirt particles and harmful environmental pollution such as fine dust. We show 3 different options for an effective double cleansing, adapted to the different skin needs.
Why a combined facial cleansing?
There may not be just one suitable facial cleanser for your skin type and individual requirements. Therefore, the double cleansing, the combination of 2 different facial cleansers, which complement each other perfectly in their effect, is highly recommended.
With double cleansing, the first step is to remove all residues from the skin. The second step has the task of really cleansing the skin down to the pores. If you use cleansing products without irritating fragrances, you don't need an additional eye makeup remover.
What is double cleansing?
The combined facial cleansing originally comes from Japan. Double cleansing is especially useful when you want to remove waterproof makeup, stubborn sunscreen, and lipstick. Even if you live in a city with high air pollution, where fine dust particles can clog your pores, attack the skin barrier and accelerate skin aging, a two-step cleansing is worthwhile.
Double cleansing for sensitive and dry skin
Sensitive and dry skin is prone to irritation and itching. Therefore, you should prefer mild and nourishing products for double cleansing. As a first step, remove your makeup and mineral sunscreen with a cleansing oil, which you then take off with water.
As a second step for dry and sensitive skin, a cleansing cream is ideal for removing excessive sebum and dirt residues.
Double cleansing for oily and impure skin
A cleansing oil with non-comedogenic ingredients is also ideal as a first step for oily skin tending to breakouts - even if this seems incomprehensible at first. Since lipids are best dissolved by oils, this also applies to the removal of excess sebum.
After washing off the cleansing oil, a cleansing gel for pore-deep cleansing is recommended as a second step. Gently massage a small amount of Deep Cleansing Gel into damp skin using circular movements. The gel-like texture turns into a soft, creamy foam when mixed with water. Then remove the gel with a sufficient amount of lukewarm water and finally pat your skin dry with a clean towel.
Double cleansing for oil-sensitive combination skin such as rosacea
If you have a rosacea-sensitive combination skin, avoid rich care products being high in lipids. In this case, we recommend the Grape Seed Cleansing Cream as a first step, if you do not have to remove waterproof makeup or sunscreen. The following Cleansing Gel then ensures pore-deep cleansing.
5 common mistakes when cleansing your face
Avoid these mistakes when washing your face:
- Cleansing too often: Cleanse your face thoroughly twice, in the morning and in the evening. But not more often, so as not to throw your skin off balance.
- Additional peelings: peelings dry out sensitive skin, weaken the skin barrier, promote itching, redness and micro-inflammation.
- Microfiber towels or hard towels: After your facial cleansing, avoid rubbing your face dry with a hard towel or microfiber towel. Instead, gently pat your face dry with a soft, clean towel. It's important to always use a clean, freshly laundered towel - especially if you suffer from breakouts.
- Cleansing your face with soap: Avoid getting soap on your face. The harsh surfactants and the basic pH value destroy the protective acid mantle and weaken the skin barrier. The result will be dry skin, redness and itching.
- Hot water: Avoid high water temperatures when cleansing your face, because hot water removes your skin's own lipids, it damages the skin barrier, dehydrates and promotes red veins. Prefer instead lukewarm water to preserve your skin's natural defense system.
