The up to 20 meter high benzoe tree is resident in Laos, Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand. In its trunk it contains a fragrant resin whose scent resembles human pheromones. The extracted essential oil is a resinoid.
Benzoin with its long-lasting, pleasantly soft and vanillary sensual scent helps to become more relaxed in times of stress and hectic. It conveys a sense of security, thereby also acting as an anxiolytic and antidepressant. The essential oil has a physically soothing, antibacterial and relaxing effect. Outwardly, benzoe is used against both inflammatory skin problems as well as cough and bronchitis.
