Introduction / Brief description
Squalane (INCI: Squalane ) is a skin-related, oxidation-stable lipid active ingredient derived from olives. It is the saturated form of squalene, a natural component of human sebum. Squalane is particularly skin-friendly, non-comedogenic, and improves the absorption of other active ingredients without leaving a greasy film.
Origin & Production
The squalane we use is extracted from cold-pressed olive oil. This is a sustainable plant-based source, making it free from animal-derived ingredients. Hydrogenation converts the fragile, unsaturated squalene into the stable squalane form—ideal for use in natural cosmetics.
Effect on the skin
- Moisturizing: Squalane protects the skin from transepidermal water loss and supports the lipid barrier.
- Skin-identical & non-irritating: As a component of the natural hydro-lipid film, it is very well tolerated.
