Lucuma is a subtropical stone fruit from the South American Andes. The drought-resistent tree with its pear-shaped, bright yellow fruits grows up to 20 m high. Originally from Peru, the Lucuma tree is also growing wild in Chile and Ecuador. Lucuma was already highly estimated as a remedy for badly healing wounds in ancient Inca times.
Lucuma is characterized by an extremely high content of nutrients and antioxidants:
